What could be better than a vizsla?

20 Jan

What could possibly be better than a vizsla?!? Two vizslas, of course! People often ask why we decided to get a second vizsla… here’s our answer.

Ben and I decided to get a dog to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. Enter Ilsa. We loved taking walks around the neighborhood and nearby parks, we loved to snuggle on the sofa and in bed at night, and we loved to play. By we, I mean Ben, Ilsa, and myself. But, only 1 person can hold the leash, only 1 person can hold the vizsla and snuggle, and only 1 person can throw the tennis ball and play games. Ben and I often playfully bickered over Ilsa. “It’s my turn to walk her” or “You got to throw the ball last night”. Haha! Basically, there wasn’t enough Ilsa to go around.

We thought long and hard about adding a second vizsla to our family. With concerns like, ‘do we have the time and energy for a puppy’, ‘should we consider a rescue’, and ‘how will Ilsa feel’, we did lots of pondering. Ultimately, we decided that Ilsa would love to have a family member who can run as fast as she can and be in her “pack”. Through support of others with multiple vizslas and the support of our wonderful Twitter community, Ben and I decided that another puppy was the right fit for our family.

Enter Gumbo! Life has never been the same! :-D

We love having two vizslas! Ben and I each have a dog to walk and rotate daily who walks which vizsla. With a family of 4, there is lots of playing and silliness. Ilsa loves having Gumbo chase her and appreciates that he’s fast! There are also plenty of cuddles now too! (Although, double vizsla cuddles – which is 2 dogs and 1 human – are TOTALLY AWESOME!).

Too much of a good thing is a good thing in vizsla world! Perhaps someday there will even be 3rd vizsla!

You never know about that third dog…lol. I remember when we decided to get a second dog, and then the third, and all of the discussions that went into the decision.

Totally agree!! We LOVE having 2. I have to say some of the best times are when I am the center of a Vizsla sandwich.

Mom often says something similar: The only thing better than one Golden Retriever is FIVE Golden Retriever’s. Much like you we wanted one for each person.. we ended up with people and seven dogs… although two of the dogs are quite small and don’t hardly make up the size of one normal dog.. so the two count for one. BOL!

Congrats on your award from 2BrownDawgs. We’ll be back!

    AROOOOOF!

All very good reasons to add another Vizsla… I had to seriously consider my husband’s personality when it came to adding another dog since I came into the relationship having already had Luna… and her being “mine.” While he loves her, Wyatt our lab is WAY better of a fit for him. More laid back for sure, and not in need of as much attention, time, training to be content. Right up his alley. They get along great, but Wyatt does not wear Luna out like I wish he did… He in the end can not keep up with her wild hair moments, as much as he would like to and he doesn’t much care for play overall like Luna does. But it works for us as a whole I guess, and as time goes on they are figuring things out together. It is amazing how tolerant Luna is of Wyatt, I think she has deemed him a total non threat, which makes live easier for all.
Will totally be following this blog, as I am still waaaay Vizsla partial. Good luck with your pup, sounds like a match made in heaven.

I also love the dynamic of two dogs in our home. We used to have two labs but when our elder dog passed two years ago I wanted a Vizsla. It took a year to heal our hearts and find the right breeder and we brought home our Vizsla pup this summer. She is a ton of fun and our house feels much better with two.

When we get a king size bed this summer, I’m going to try to talk my husband into a third Vizsla. Love them so much! If we lived on a farm I would have 10! :

Your picture of them on their bed looking out the window is adorable. :)

Haha – we would have 10 too if we had the space! But two is plenty to keep us busy for now ;-)
