Vizsla Nationals update!

2 May

Greetings from Huron, Ohio! As Dr. Seuss wrote – Oh the places you’ll go! Just a few years ago, I couldn’t imagine traveling to the edge of Lake Erie for a dog competition, but here we are and loving every minute of it. The schedule has been busy, and we have seen so many amazing vizslas competing in conformation, agility, obedience, and rally. I just wanted to give you a quick mid-week update on the excitement.

Today Gumbo showed in the Open class and was handled beautifully by his co-breeder to a 4th placement out of 17 entered in his class!!!! It is such a huge honor to us for Gumbo to take a home a ribbon from Nationals among such an impressive group. He is sleeping well tonight after having to work hard in the ring today :-).

Another highlight of the day was Ilsa’s trip around the ring in the Parade of Titleholders to celebrate the completion of her recent Junior Hunter title.

Other highlights of the day included the Parade of Therapy Dogs (what an incredible group!) and Sweepstakes (puppies and veterans). Off to get some rest before cheering on our friends tomorrow!

A winning weekend

1 Feb

This past weekend, Gumbo competed in his first conformation show of the year. He walked away without any points, but this weekend wasn’t a loss at all. Sure, it’s disappointing to walk away empty handed considering all the time, energy, and money required for the conformation ring, but win or lose Gumbo always walks out of the ring with a twinkle in his eye. It’s hard to ever be too frustrated around our carefree, goofy boy.

2012: goals for the new year

2 Jan

Happy New Year! 2011 was an incredible year for our family and our vizslas. We consider it a year of learning. Although Gumbo joined our family in 2010, the past year was spent learning how to live peacefully with a second vizsla in the house and keeping everyone is house happy (particularly Ilsa :P). 2011 also brought us an introduction to the world of dog competitions as Gumbo strutted his stuff in the show ring. This experience was thrilling, nerve-wracking, and humbling. We met a number of amazing people and traveled to many locations we would have NEVER otherwise visited. The highlight was probably Hotel Bothwell in Sedalia, Missouri. We also made the trip to Denver, Colorado, for the 2011 Vizsla Club of America Non-Field National Events. Needless to say, that was quite the experience. As we look forward to 2012, we are eager to deepen our relationships with Ilsa and Gumbo.
